PERU’S DISPUTE OVER THE STATE’S DEPENDENCIES NEW INTERIM PRESIDENT JOSÉ MARÍA BALCÁZAR

LIMA. After assuming Interim Presidency of the Republic of Peru, José María Balcázar, since February 2026, the dispute over the State’s dependencies has divided the parliament and the executive power of the country manifesting factual interest over stability.

Dr. Francisco Sagasti, Former President of Peru, identified conflict manifested by Political Parties after the destitution of President José Jeri creating a domestic approach towards the democratic conflict in the Republic of Peru. Even though the organization of a democratic election has not been invoked by Constitutional powers the significance of the Parliament, albeit divided, is the current legitimized Institution of the State’s legislative Power.

According to Sagasti, the authority of a Constitutional Tribunal, has been consolidated by means of far right political parties, reason for which during interview developed by Pulitzer Award Winner, Andrés Oppenheimer, the re institution about the difference between the Citizens Defender grouped ideologically with the far left political parties and the State’s Dependencies are differentiated from the President’s interest in Congress (Sagasti, 2026) (Oppenheimer Presenta)[1].

Even though division has awakened manifestation and conflict within citizens, the creation of coalitions with partial and temporary objectives has increased the cleavage and consent towards governance and stability.
